East Valley’s Outreach Education Services Department
creates, implements, and monitors effective and innovative prevention
strategies to improve the health of low income and underserved individuals
in the East San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys. Annually we reach over 20,000
individuals through our different outreach programs. All services are
available in English and Spanish and are designed to reflect the cultural
and linguistic needs of our patients.
School Readiness

Parent/child workshops are
offered to parents of children 0-5 yrs. in the Mt. View School District by
our Development Educators. The workshops offer an early education program
for children 0-3 yrs.
Family
Planning Initiatives

The goal of our Family
Planning Initiatives is to increase access and utilization of family
planning services and methods. Focus is on prevention of STDs, HIV, birth
control methods and male responsibility in pregnancy prevention. East
Valley’s clinic van is available for clients requiring transportation.
Teen Pregnancy Prevention

Our program focuses on
three separate target groups:
• Middle
school youth
• Youth ages
14-18
• Parents of
adolescents
HIV/AIDS Prevention

Why get tested?
There are many reasons to get an HIV test. A few
are:
• You’re sexually active and are concerned about
your health.
• You’ve had unprotected oral, vaginal, or anal
sex.
• You and your sexual partner(s) want to know
each other’s status.
• You’ve had a sexual partner who is HIV
positive.
• You injected drugs or other substances.
• You just want to know.
Target populations:
• Men who have sex with men
• Men who have sex with men and women
• Injection drug users
• Women at sexual risk
• Transgender individuals at sexual risk
Intervention Strategies:
• Free condom availability
• HIV prevention counseling, testing and
referral services

Counts Intervention

HIV Counseling, Testing, and Referral Services:
• Services are provided at West Covina
and Pomona clinics.
• Mobile testing unit is also used.
Types of HIV Tests:
• OraQuick – A swab placed on your gums, with
results in 20 minutes.
• OraSure – A saliva swab placed in your mouth,
with results in 7 days.
• Sample draw – A syringe blood draw, with
results in 7 days.
Services are provided in a safe, non-judgmental and
confidential setting.
Popular Opinion Leader Intervention
POL is a multi-level intervention that utilizes community gatekeepers who
are trained to communicate risk reduction information to their peers and
social networks on a one-on-one or small group basis.

to assist drug-using clients reduce their risks of HIV infection.

Want to Help?

If you are concerned about how the HIV epidemic
affects your community, there are a number of ways you can help.
Donate hygiene supplies. When you travel,
collect shampoo, conditioners, soaps, and lotions. We also need travel size
deodorant, razors, and feminine hygiene products to distribute to homeless
clients during outreach.
Volunteer! There are a number of
opportunities to donate your time – even just 2 hours a week.
