PRESS RELEASE
The CDC approves NOVAVAX COVID-19 Adjuvanted Vaccine
(Tuesday, August 2, 2022) West Covina, CA - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has approved the NOVAVAX COVID-19 Adjuvanted Vaccine as a 2-dose series, with the second dose given 3-8 weeks apart. This new COVID-19 vaccine is protein-based and another option for the already approved Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson's Janssen vaccines. It will be available to people ages 18 and older who require or prefer a protein-based vaccine. The NOVAVAX COVID-19 Adjuvanted Vaccine is not authorized for use as a booster.
According to the CDC, the NOVAVAX COVID-19 Adjuvanted Vaccine ingredients "are considered safe for most people. Nearly all of the ingredients in COVID-19 vaccines are ingredients found in many foods—fats, sugar, and salts. The Novavax COVID-19 vaccine also includes harmless pieces (proteins) of the virus that causes COVID-19; they are pieces of what is often called the spike protein." At this time, East Valley CHC does not currently carry the Novavax vaccine. We will update the community if and when we have the Novavax vaccine available.
