PRESS RELEASE
WEST COVINA, CA (September 30, 2022) - East Valley Community Health Center is honored to be selected as a recipient of L.A. Care Health Plan’s Oral Health Initiative grant. This year, L.A. Care awarded $1.5 million in oral health grants to 12 local organizations with the goal of expanding access and improving the quality of oral health care in low-income communities of color.
“Studies have linked poor oral health to a number of chronic diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, and stroke,” said John Baackes, L.A. Care CEO. “Many of our Medi-Cal members live in dental deserts, so we have to address this crisis if we are going to improve their health outcomes, and we are committed to doing just that.”
The funds received from the Oral Health Initiative Grant enabled East Valley to expand our pediatric dental services to our RUSD Family Resource Center in La Puente.
"If a child is linked to a dental home in early childhood, they have a great start on a path to overall good health. The LA Care Oral Health Grant has made it possible for us to expand the hours of our Pediatric Dentist, enhancing and increasing access to our young patients,” said Dr. Alison Sung, Dental Director at East Valley Community Health Center.
On behalf of our staff and the patients we serve, thank you, L.A. Care, for continuing to champion for health care access and equity in our most vulnerable communities.
